Domus Academy competition: Design a car unlike a car

A beautiful car by itself is powerless. Its’ value and significance comes from intelligent scenarios and context of use which builds the balance between materials and technology that leads into innovative and successful solutions.

The main philosophy of Master in Car Design in Domus Academy is not only based on beauty and restyling, but on interdisciplinary topics that surround car design 360 degrees: exterior, interior, brand values, car vision & clay modeling techniques, design language on brand accessories, sales & after sales factors.

The aim of focusing on these topics is awakening the consciousness of the masters candidates about the collateral factors that directly shape & define the real necessities of the consumers and their expectations from the car industry via the designers.
The competition is open to any designer (professional or student) who is interested to gain a new vision & set mind in the Car Design field through DA Master in Car Design Program for challenging the future automobile trends.

Art Center controversy: some interesting details.

LA Weekly published a complete article about Art Center controversy giving new details about the problem that school management and students are currently living.

Here a small part of it:

Nathan Cooke* isn’t a miscreant. He isn’t a troublemaker or a misguided teen. He is a 26-year-old industrial design major in his final two trimesters at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Cooke’s a good student too — a rare Art Center scholarship recipient and an active force on campus. He’s the president of the EcoCouncil, a student organization designed to promote environmental responsibility on campus and beyond.

It started with Styrofoam.
Despite branding itself as a world leader in sustainability education, Art Center’s cafeteria uses disposable Styrofoam dishware. For nearly two years, Cooke says, EcoCouncil, fellow students and even some faculty lobbied Art Center’s administration to ditch the Styrofoam in favor of something more environmentally friendly. Some recycling bins around campus wouldn’t hurt, either, they argued.
“But, we were consistently told there wasn’t enough money,” Cooke says.
One day after Cooke’s post, Art Center’s Chief Academic Officer Nate Young resigned under curious circumstances — with Koshalek hinting it was due to Young’s handling of a $1.1 million educational budget deficit. A short time later, Young’s assistant, Rachel Tiede, fresh off maternity leave, was fired after speaking up for her former boss at a student government meeting.

Car design rendering by Hussein Al Attar

Hussein Al Attar is a student of Transportation Design at Pforzheim University of Applied Science currently 5th term, a part of his portfolio and skills is visible at Cardesignnews web site at the portfolio session. Hussein has also a page on DeviantArt.
Hussein is a talented student his car sketches are really good, he prefers to use a monochromatic technique with hard and soft black pencil, no backgrounds just his cars drawing in very exciting perspectives.
The rendering here published is an example of how he can go from extreme simplicity to a very flashy digital rendering. The illustration is well done with good perspective and dramatic color choice, high contrast and good control of warm and cool color zone with precise focal point.

I invite you to check his on line portfolio at Cardesignnews to appreciate his skills has source of ispiration.
